Below we provide
more detailed information regarding our services.
Word Processing
All word processing is carried out according to current accepted
layouts, ranging from simple letters to business plans and manuscripts.
If you have a preferred layout we are happy to comply with this
as long as it does not contravene the rules regarding presentation
of specific documents.
We will always check your original document for spelling or
grammatical errors and rectify these during the typing process.
However, this will be done sensitively, with due regard paid
to individual style, and no major alterations will be made without
prior authorisation from you. This is particularly important
with manuscripts, where style sometimes takes precedence over
perceived grammatical usage.
Please feel free to submit your document for an initial, no-obligation
quote on price and timescale. We are experienced in the use
and intricacies of both Microsoft Word and Corel WordPerfect,
but if you intend to send a file by email we would recommend
that you use Word, as many users may not be able to open a WordPerfect
file. WordPerfect files can be converted to Word, but the formatting
may be corrupted.
Finished work is normally sent as a draft copy for you to
check. The quickest and most convenient way is by email or fax,
but it can be posted if you prefer. There will however be an
additional cost for postage depending on weight. The price you
pay includes any subsequent amendments or corrections as long
as no additional material is used. When you have approved the
final product it will be sent according to your requirements,
on Conqueror paper, copy paper, floppy disk or CD-ROM. You may
of course collect the document if you prefer. Again, postage
of the final item will incur an additional charge.
Proofreading
This is particularly important to ensure that the content of
the final document is consistently accurate and contains no
errors to detract from its presentation. It requires an eye
for detail and a comprehensive awareness of the use and variety
of the English language.
Proofreading is the equivalent of ‘Quality Control’
in manufacturing or ‘Snagging’ in the building trade.
This essential final check ensures that your work will pass
the most thorough inspection and satisfy even the most critical
reader.
Although some companies may rely on spell checkers to identify
errors, we always proofread word by word in order to ensure
that spelling and grammatical errors not normally identified
by automatic checkers are rectified.
Business Plans
These documents can be neglected and their presentation may
not be up to the required standard. It is important, particularly
with a business start-up, to make sure that you include all
the expected information and that the finished product is clear
and well structured. We can provide a list of categories which
should be included and also offer help on content if required.
In the case of an official document such as this we would
recommend that it be bound, preferably in a clear binder, to
maximise its professionalism and impact.
Audio Typing (Transcription)
Prices for audio typing vary enormously depending on the length
and clarity of tapes provided. It should be noted that audio
typing can take anything up to seven times as long as copy typing,
especially if the tape is not clear. We therefore reserve the
right to refuse work of this type if it is likely to exceed
a reasonable fee. If possible you should deliver or post the
tape(s) so that we can assess their quality and provide you
with an informed quote.
Audio typing, again, relies heavily on the ability of the
transcriber to produce a document free from spelling and grammatical
errors. It is therefore vital to employ the services of a company
such as Protype which has extensive expertise in this area.
